Arabian Civilization: 1000 BC - AD 500
  • Arabian Civilization 500 BC

The peninsula is home to Arab nomads, living a life which would be recognizable to modern Bedouin. The exception to this is in the south, with its settled kingdoms and cities. These highly organized states depend upon large-scale irrigation to sustain their agriculture, but they have also become a centre for international commerce. The region is a source of the highly-prized spice called frankincense, and caravans carrying this precious commodity regularly travel north.
