Arabian Civilization: 1000 BC - AD 500
  • Arabian Civilization 200 BC

Much of the Arabian peninsula is home to Arab nomads, living a life which would be recognizable to modern Bedouin. In the south, however, large-scale irrigation agriculture has made the settled kingdoms and cities of the region wealthy. The expansion of trade routes in the Red Sea is also important. The merchant towns along the south Arabian coast make the region a centre of long-distance maritime trade between India, the Mediterranean, and the Persian Gulf.
