Over the past thousand years Egypt has experienced periods of strength and unity, as during the "Middle Kingdom", and also of weakness and division, during two "Intermediate Period". At this date, however, the land has just been re-united under powerful pharaohs of what modern scholars call the "New Kingdom". They have swiftly asserted Egyptian control over the peoples surrounding the Nile valley to south, east and west.
These strong-willed pharaohs will preside over one of the most glorious periods in the long history of this ancient civilization. The great monuments they will leave behind in the Valley of the Kings, near their royal capital of Thebes, will testify to their awsome power.
