Several great empires now dominate the ancient civilizations of the Eastern Hemisphere. From west to east there is the Roman, the Parthian, the Scythian and the Han empires. Of these, the Roman and Han empires will be the most enduring, and will have the deepest impact upon future world history.

An event of great future significance is the birth about now, in an obscure frontier province of the Roman empire, of the founder of Christianity, Jesus of Nazareth.

In the Western Hemisphere, the beginnings of the great Mayan civilization can be discerned in Central America.
